The secrets of streaming
Streaming isn’t just for your sofa anymore. In the premiere episode of Visionary, Georgina Godwin speaks with John Smolen, Senior VP at Atmosphere—a platform quietly becoming the world’s largest streaming service for businesses.
Forget prestige dramas and pricey subscriptions. Atmosphere delivers short, silent, looping content tailored for spaces like bars, salons and gyms—places where traditional TV just doesn’t work. “TV was never designed for businesses,” says Smolen. “We built Atmosphere to fix that.”
The model is clever: businesses stream it free (if used over 40 hours a month), ads fund the service, and venues can even upload their own promos. It's now streaming in over 60,000 locations and has become the number one streaming service in US airports.
With content partnerships, live sports, and interactive features like trivia games on the horizon, Atmosphere is reimagining out-of-home screens as meaningful media spaces—and creating a win-win for venues, audiences and advertisers alike.
